James Evan Astin
June 15, 1987 - May 12, 2017

Evan Astin, 29, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of Stamford, Texas, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 in Stamford. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Stamford with Pastor Paul Wright officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will receive guests at a reception in the fellowship hall of the church.
James “Evan” Astin was born on June 15, 1987 in Stamford, Texas, the son of Jim and Sheila (Scarborough) Astin. Evan was a Stamford High School graduate, class of 2005. In 2009, Evan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Bio Medical Science from Texas A & M University. He then attended the Baylor School of Medicine in Houston in 2014, obtaining his Doctorate Degree. Evan moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and was in the Residency of Internal Medicine Program at the University of New Mexico. He was a member of Phi Betta Kappa Fraternity and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Evan enjoyed snow skiing, sky diving, playing video games, being with family and friends and the holiday activities. Evan was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Evan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patsy and Joe Astin.
Surviving Evan are his father, Jim Astin of Stamford; mother, Sheila Stevens and husband Dave of Abilene; a sister, Emily Astin of Dallas; grandmother, Delle Reed of Ballinger; an uncle, Ted Scarborough and wife Laini of Longview; cousins, Sidney, Sam and Charlie Scarborough, all of Longview; numerous cousins and other extended relatives; and a special friend, Ashley Jameson of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
