Frank Peter Goldstone
April 27, 2017

Frank Peter Goldstone died on April 27th 2017, after a four-year battle of congestive heart failure and Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Houston January 28, 1934, the eldest child of Frank & Florence Goldstone. He was a charter member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, having attended the first Sunday service held at River Oaks Elementary School, which was just across the street from his home. Having visited his grandparents numerous times in England, he & his family were there when World War II was declared and his father had to quickly book passage back to the States. He attended River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Junior High and graduated from Lamar High School in 1952. Upon graduation, Peter entered Texas A&M College (now University) where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Two days later, he joined Shell Oil Co. at Deer Park Refinery. Six months after graduation, Peter married the former Lucy Virginia Newby at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Houston and shortly afterwards, was called to active duty with the Chemical Corps at Fort McClelland, Alabama and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He served in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Captain.
After his active duty, he returned to Shell Refinery, then moved to marketing, with assignments requiring numerous moves to locations, such as New York, New Orleans (twice), Denver and four moves to Houston. He was in various business centers with Shell Oil, Pecten International and Shell Chemical when he retired after 37 years of service to the company.
Once back in Houston for the final company tour, he became very involved with Texas A&M football and was, for many years, a member of the Bryan-College Station Quarterback Club. He & Lucy had season tickets for over 35 years and he thoroughly enjoyed being with his fellow classmates at the games and the class reunions, finally attending the Sul Ross gathering, denoting his 50th anniversary of graduation. Having been a devoted Episcopalian his entire life, he & Lucy were members of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church the past 40 years and were directors of the church’s Senior Group for 9 years, taking members on numerous bus trips all over southeastern Texas on Harris County Precinct 4 busses.
Peter was a devoted family man to his wife and three children. Even though he travelled extensively for the company, he always tried to be home on week-ends to take his daughter and sons on outings on the week-ends.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Florence Goldstone, his brother Tom (A&M ’57), his daughter, Melanie Goldstone Chapman of Shanghai and his son, Frank Peter Goldstone, Jr.(A&M class of ‘83) of Houston. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucy N. Goldstone, son Paul Gordon Goldstone of Eugene OR (A&M ’95), his sister, Ann Derby of Austin, his son-in-law, Melanie’s husband, Andrew Chapman of Singapore, his granddaughters, Elizabeth & Alexandra Chapman, also of Singapore, his daughter-in-law, Frank’s wife, Susan Goldstone, and twin granddaughters, Haley & Allison Goldstone of Huntingdon PA and Paul’s partner, Laura Colby and her son Tristan of Eugene OR.
