Joseph Glynon Batson
January 20, 1925 - April 13, 2017
JOSEPH GLYNON BATSON, age 92 of Las Cruces passed away April 13th 2017 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born January 20th, 1925 in Normangee, Texas to Joe and Millie Batson. Joe served in the United States Army during WWII as a Medical Aidman and
was decorated with a Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He returned from his tour of duty on the S. Army Hospital ship “Shamrock” to the port of embarkation, Charleston, S.C.
Joe graduated from Texas A & M University with a degree in Agriculture in 1950 on a GI Bill, and worked 35 years for the United States Department of Agriculture as an area conservationist. Joe and his deceased wife Ann, met in Panhandle, Texas where Ann’s parents
owned a hotel and Joe rented one of the rooms. Joe and Ann were married in March of 1951.
Along with his wife, Joe was a charter member for over 3 decades of the Dona Ana Peppers-RV Chapter of Good Sam Club. Joe had many fond memories with the Dona Ana Peppers family. He was an avid golfer and participated in many tournaments supporting the less
fortunate. His other interests included gardening, fishing, and camping in the Colorado Rockies.
Survivors include one sister, Melba Massey of Conroe, Texas, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday “Flag Day”, June 14, 2017 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel, 300 E Boutz Road. Military honors will be accorded by a New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps
League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.
