Edwin Wayne Thomas Jr.
June 22, 1922 - April 16, 2017

Edwin Wayne Thomas, Jr., 94, of Midland, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017. He was born on June 22, 1922 in Bowie, Louisiana to Rose and Wayne Thomas and grew up in the Texas Panhandle. After graduating from Texas A & M in 1943, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a pilot in World War II, flying 82 missions in the China-Burma-India Theatre (the "Hump"). He retired from the Air Force Reserves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1982.
After returning from the war, Ed married the love of his life Berniece Thomas on March 23, 1946 in Perryton, Texas. He retired from Home Insurance Company in 1980 as a safety engineer. He had been a member of First United Methodist Church Midland since 1953 where he and his wife were very involved.
Ed is preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents and his brothers Bennett and Dick Thomas.
He is survived by his daughters Pam Stephenson, Marcia Doughty and Brenda Sorrells and husband Lynn, his grandchildren Deana Delozier, Jesse Sorrells, Ashley Sanders and Dodd Duvall and nine great grandchildren. Edwin also leaves behind nieces, nephews and his special friend, Delia McCow.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice or your charity of choice.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
