Allen Lennox Shorkey(1942 - 2017)
Allen Lennox Shorkey, 74, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, at a Teague nursing home. Service: Graveside memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, in Salem Cemetery near Freestone, Texas. Rev. Richard Gillet will officiate. Allen was born in Freeport
and moved to Lake Jackson where he grew up and graduated high school. He attended Texas A&M for a year before entering the U.S. Navy. He served for six years in the Navy during the Vietnam War, then returned to Texas A&M and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical
Engineering. He worked for General Dynamics in San Diego, Calif., Gulf States Utilities in Baton Rouge, La., and Dow Chemical in Plaquemine, La., before returning to Texas and working for Alcon Laboratories in Fort Worth until his retirement. He married Joy
Johnson on March 16, 1965, and shared over 52 years of marriage together. Mr. Shorkey was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching and playing golf. Mr. Shorkey was preceded in death by his
parents, Albert and Maureen Grayson Shorkey. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Joy Johnson Shorkey of Fort Worth; daughter, Elizabeth Shorkey Wells and husband, Cory, of Burleson; brothers, Charles Shorkey and wife, Alice, of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert
Shorkey of North Carolina; sister, Margaret Shorkey Evans of Fairhope, Ala.; other relatives; and friends.
