Dr. E. Gerald Pires
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Dr. E. Gerald Pires' long, happy and fulfilled life on this earth ended Monday, March 13, 2017, at Willamette View in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Pires was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest V. and Gladys Pires of Jacksonville; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Bolland of Oberlin, Ohio. He is survived by his brother, Garland of Metamora; and sister, Janet Bolland of Oberlin, Ohio; as well six nieces and nephews.

Dr. Pires was a scientist, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois, a Master of Science degree from the University of Chicago, and his Ph.D from Texas A&M University. He also studied for three years at the University of Kansas. He worked at several laboratories during his career, including Northwest Envirocon Inc. He was the author of three books, numerous scientific publications, brochures, manuals and professional articles. He became a Longhorn cattle rancher and owned a tree farm in his later years.

Gerald served our country during the Korean War in the unique 474th Signal Aviation Construction Company. He has been interred at Oregon National Cemetery in Portland.
