Died: March 18, 2017
Location: Lakeway, Texas

Rachel Spelman, 23, of Lakeway, Texas tragically passed away on March 18, 2017 in Dallas, Texas; the victim of a hit and run accident. Rachel was born on October 18, 1993 in Austin, Texas to her adoring parents, Thomas and Cheryl Spelman. Rachel was a "lifer" in the Lake Travis School District and upon graduating from Lake Travis High School in 2012 she proudly enrolled and was accepted into Texas A&M University. Rachel spent four wonderful years in College Station and in 2016 graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication and a minor in Business. While at "The Best University on Earth", Rachel was a member of Lamda Pi Eta Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Eta National Honor Societies. She was also a VERY PROUD member of the Texas A&M Delta Delta Delta Sorority where she served in multiple officer positions as a respected leader. Rachel considered it the greatest blessing in the world to spend 3 years at Texas A&M together with her younger sister, Katie, Class of 2017. Upon graduation, Rachel proudly began her professional career at Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Plano, Texas as an Inside Sales Account Manager.

Rachel is survived by her parents, Tom and Cheryl; her sister, Katie; grandparents, Dave and Nan Conkling; Aunts Catherine (Steve) Lackey of Decatur, TX, Carolyn (Bob) Peterson of Cleveland, OK, Mary Lee (Bud) Bailey of Dayton, OH, Ruth (Roger) Ellis of Denver, CO, Patricia (Mark) Verbanick of Munhall, PA, Judy (Ted) Misko of Moon Township, PA; many beloved cousins, extended family, friends and her precious dog, Zoie. Rachel was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Leona and Thomas Spelman and her uncle Davy Conkling.

Rachel was a cherished daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Rachel loved nothing more than spending quality time with her family and her many friends. She took such genuine, caring interest in everyone she encountered and deeply touched the lives of them all. Rachel loved her life and lived it to the fullest.

At an early age, Rachel became very involved in the Lakeway Church Youth Group and spent countless hours learning about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where she developed a devotion and passion that would guide and inspire her throughout her life.

Rachel had beauty, wit, a laugh and a smile that were one of a kind. Incredibly smart and a hard worker, she often held multiple jobs while maintaining a near 4.0 GPA. Rachel was a "Yes!" friend…always there for anyone who needed her. She will leave an indelible memory for everyone who met her. Rachel Lynn Spelman was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, March 25th, in Lakeway at Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohman's Crossing Road, Lakeway, TX 78734.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations to a scholarship established in Rachel's name. Contributions may be made to the Lake Travis Education Foundation, P.O. Box 340759, Lakeway, Texas, 78734; Rachel Spelman Memorial Scholarship listed in the memo line.
