Cleve Walkup
Houston Cleve Walkup, 92, of Bryan, passed away Sunday February 26, 2017 at his residence with family by his side. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2017, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center at 3001 S College Ave. in Bryan. Funeral services honoring Cleve will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at A&M United Methodist Church with a reception immediately following. A private burial be at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery in Bryan.

Cleve was born May 19, 1924 in Cottle County, Texas, to Samuel Hoyte Walkup and Sally Grace Crabtree Walkup.

He earned his Bachelors Degree from Texas A&M in 1950, and later earned his Masters of Education, also from Texas A&M. While a student at A&M Cleve served as President of the Wesley Foundation.

Cleve married his wife of nearly 64 years, Barbara Sue Fausett, on April 2, 1953 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

From 1952-1967 he taught Vocational Agriculture at Stamford, Rule and Azle, Texas. While in Azle the Governor of Texas named him an Honorary Texas Colonel. In 1967 he became an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education at Texas A&M University teaching 415 farm wiring short courses across the the state of Texas.

Cleve was a life member of Phi Delta Kappa; the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas and at the age of 90 became a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a member of the A&M United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Sue Fausett Walkup; son, David Samuel Walkup and wife Pamela Kay Wells Walkup; daughters, Wanda Ann Walkup Schlutt and husband Edward Frederick Schlutt, Sue Elaine Walkup Winkler and husband Larry Ray Winkler; sister, Leona Evelyn Walkup McCart; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three nephews.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Hospice Brazos Valley at 502 W. 26th Street in Bryan, or to A&M United Methodist Church at 417 University Dr. in College Station. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to his caregivers in the last years of his life.
