William Harvey Flynt, 80, of Midland, Texas, was born on October 4, 1936 in Ballinger, Texas, to James and Evelyn Flynt. He passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 in Midland, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Flynt of Midland, Texas; two daughters, Cynthia Lynn Flynt – Caldwell of Odessa and Deborah Ann Maxwell of Midland; one sister, Jimbeth (James) Flynt Hite of Caldwell, Texas; one granddaughter, Jennifer Caldwell Carpenter of Boerne, Texas; two great grandchildren, Christopher James Carpenter of Boerne, Texas and Logan Warren Carpenter of Boerne, Texas .He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Marion Flynt.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Chapel of Midland.

William Harvey (Bill) Flynt
William Harvey Flynt, 80, of Midland Texas passed away February 14, 2017. His family rejoices because he is free from pain and living joyfully in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be missed in this life and is now a part of the joy we anticipate when we join him in Heaven. Bill was born at home on October 4, 1936 in Ballinger, Texas to James Petty Flynt, Jr. and Evelyn Elizabeth Harvey Flynt. His parents raised him to respect life, love others, and to live with integrity and generosity. These were lessons that shaped his character. Faith, family, and service were the hallmarks of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ballinger when he accepted Christ as his Savior, a decision he considered to be the most important and best decision he ever made. As a boy, he saw life as one big adventure and he satisfied his insatiable curiosity by exploring and learning by doing. He was a willing student which contributed to making him a man of many talents. He was educated in Ballinger public schools, graduating in May 1955. During that time, he was a proud member of the Bearcat marching band. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 34. Bill's father was the Scout Master of the troop and under his father's leadership, Bill attained the rank of Eagle Scout, earned his Eagle Badge with 3 Palms, Order of the Arrows, and God and Country Badge in 1953. His experiences in that thriving troop were some of the best times of his life. When he turned 16, Bill joined the United States Naval Reserve, and was honorably discharged in 1962. He attended San Angelo Jr. College and graduated from Texas A & M College in May 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education. While at A&M, he was the President of an Honor Fraternity, Iota Lambda Sigma. He worked with dedication and integrity. In a career spanning 52 years, Bill worked in the insurance and oil industries and took pride in the work he did to make people as safe as possible in the work place. His goal was to make it possible for every employee to return home at the end of each day injury free. He was a member of American Society of Safety Engineers, American Safety Management Systems, National Rifle Association, Midland Shooters, Texas A&M Former Students Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council, and was a First Aid Instructor and a Defensive Driving Instructor. Bill was proud of his work achievements, but his family was his highest priority. Bill married his beloved high school sweetheart, Linda Darby Flynt, on December 14, 1956. He loved, laughed, and lived with her for 60 years. Together, they raised Cynthia, Deborah, and Christopher, providing them with a heritage of faith, a legacy of love, and an example of faithfulness and generous service. Bill and Linda lived in Midland for 43 years and during that time have poured their lives into the lives of others by serving together in the Singles Ministry at First Baptist Church Midland. Bill also enjoyed serving in the media ministry of the church and considered it a great privilege to work with the leadership and young men of Boy Scout Troop 232. Bill lived life with an insatiable curiosity, a deep love for people, and open-handed generosity. If he saw a need, he did all he could to meet it. He cherished his friendships, new and old, and loved being around people. Together, he and Linda have moved through life with a generosity of heart and spirit that has touched many other lives. They have lived well and loved well and they have been well loved in return. Bill has joined those who have gone before him into Heaven. Today, he is with his mother, Evelyn Flynt; father, Jim Flynt; and son, Christopher Marion Flynt. Bill is survived by Linda Flynt, his wife of 60 years; sister, Jimbeth Flynt Hite and husband James; daughters, Cynthia Flynt Caldwell and husband Steve, and Deborah Flynt Maxwell and husband Phillip; granddaughter, Jennifer Caldwell Carpenter and husband Timothy; great-grandsons, Christopher James and Logan Warren; and by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Midland and the nurses and aides of the 8th floor at MMH for their excellent care. The family welcomes those who would like to attend a Memorial Service celebrating a life well-lived at First Baptist Church Midland in the Chapel on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to Boy Scout Troop 232 or the Music Ministry, both through First Baptist Church of Midland. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Ballinger, Texas at a later date.
