Died: February 13, 2017
Location: Leander, Texas

Tommy Rolfe Steel, 84, of Leander, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas. He was born August 12, 1932 in Texarkana, Arkansas. He attended Texas A&M University where he was in ROTC and a senior member of the band. He joined the Air Force and retired after 22 years as a Lt. Colonel. He then worked as the Executive Director of the the Child's Saving Institute and later as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Nebraska and New Mexico. Tom had many interests and hobbies. He volunteered for the Santa Fe Trail organization and was elected president. He loved music and played his trumpet in community orchestras and musicals.

He enjoyed acting and performed in melodramas and plays and was an extra in several movies and music videos! Tom was a true believer in having an active lifestyle. He enjoyed running, tennis, racquetball, golf, and always had a membership at the local gym. One of Tom's greatest joys in life came from his love of animals. Throughout his life he had many pets ranging from dogs to horses to pigs and even a goat! You could always find Tom walking a dog and chatting with neighbors! He was a loving husband, proud father, grandfather, great grandfather, and caring friend.

Tom is survived by wife, Carlene Steel of Leander, TX; children, Suzan Kenik and husband Dr. Jay Kenik of Omaha, NE; Stephen Beasley and wife Ann Starr of Austin, TX; and Melissa Beasley-Coke and husband Jason Coke of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren, Jordan Kenik, Samantha Kenik, Micah Beasley, Vaughn Beasley, and great grandson, Ezra Phillips Kenik.

He was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Eva Steel and first wife, Wanda Allen Steel.

Private family funeral services will take place March 3, 2017 at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
