Wallace George Schlather, 84, born November 15, 1932, in San Antonio, TX to the late Erich G. Schlather and Ella Louise Sahm Schlather, passed away in Aransas Pass on February 9, 2017 following a brief illness. His parents moved to Corpus Christi when he was a young boy; he resided in Corpus until he attended Texas A&M University in College Station. He was a member of the Cadet Corp, played violin, and was on the fencing team until graduating with his B.S. in Chemical Engineering, after which he joined the U.S. Army with the rank of First Lieutenant. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1962. He married Lesby Jane Bryan in June 1953; they lived in a number of locations around the country and in Europe, before returning to the Corpus Christi area, settling in Portland. They had four children: two daughters, Juli and Lucinda; and two sons, Erick (Rick) and Bryan. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lesby, and his son, Rick. He loved music, traveling and good food. He was devoted to his family; he and our mother, Lesby, will be sorely missed. We thank all those who helped take care of him in his later years. We appreciate the care given him by the staff at Rockport Coastal Care and by the doctors and ICU staff at Care Regional Medical Center in Aransas Pass. Thank you as well to all the friends who supported them during their last years.
