Frank Bill Petroski, Jr. was born May 22, 1934 to Frank and Sophie Petroski in Bremond, Texas. Frank attended St. Joseph's School during his elementary years where he was an altar boy. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan in 1953.
While in high school, Frank excelled in track. His mile relay team came in first place and he was offered track scholarships to several colleges. He chose to do first things first and joined the United States Army, and served two years with a special weapons unit in Germany from October 1953 to October 1955.Frank returned home to Bryan and entered Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1959 with a Business Administration degree. His job took him to Houston, and he spent 25 years working with steel related companies where he was recognized many times as a top salesman and manager.
While working in Houston, Frank met and married Arlene Vorwerk on June 30, 1962 and together they became the proud parents of Scott Bill Petroski and Alane Le (Petroski) Williams. He was equally proud of his "number two daughter," Karen, married to Scott, and Clay, his "number two son," married to Alane. In addition, Frank was the proud grandpa to Zachary, Jordan and Cameron Williams.
In 1995, he retired from Vincent Metals, and Frank and Arlene moved to College Station. Frank and Arlene were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bryan and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station. All of Frank's life he chose to be of service to whomever needed help, whether it was family or a stranger, so he promptly started volunteering. He ushered at St. Joseph's for 30 years and sold BBQ at the May Festivals for the Usher's Club. Frank volunteered for St. Vincent De Paul Society where he unloaded groceries for their food pantry and was an extraordinary minister at St. Joseph's Church and St. Joseph's Rehab Center. He often times filled in and did the cooking and served funeral meals at the church. Frank helped decorate the Christmas tree in the church at St. Joseph's and his annual job was to climb up the ladder to put ornaments at the very top and to make sure the angel was just right on top of the tree. He was active in the Brazos County A&M Club and helped at all the Fish Frys before the A&M baseball games. He was active with the Coalition for Life where for two years he prayed every Monday morning in front of Planned Parenthood because he felt strongly about the right to life for unborns. Since 2003, Frank faithfully volunteered every Tuesday morning at the College Station Medical Center where he greeted everyone with an Aggie "Howdy" as they came into the front door of the Med. Frank was also a member of the American Legion.
Frank was a devoted Aggie who had season tickets since 1962 to all the football games and attended other Aggie sports as time permitted, taking his wife, kids or grandchildren, sitting at football games through wind, rain, sleet, wins and losses - always staying to the (sometimes bitter) end. Frank's garden where he raised an array of vegetables was the envy of the neighborhood, and he proudly gave them to neighbors, friends, church members and hospital workers. Frank lived his entire life putting his faith first, then his family and friends, and of course, his love for Texas A&M. Gig'em!
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Daniel Petroski, James Petroski, and sister Dorothy Meyer.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter Alane Williams and her husband Clay and their children Zachary, Jordan and Cameron Williams; son Scott Petroski and his wife Karen, their sons Jack Satcher and Jeff Satcher and his wife Riviera Satcher and their children Lawson and Samuel. He is also survived by his sisters Dolores Cox, Patricia Van Winkle, and Margaret McAughan, and numerous nieces and nephews.A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas. All extended family and friends are invited to attend a reception celebrating Frank's life immediately afterward in St. Joseph's Parish Activity Center at noon.
In lieu of flowers, a remembrance donation to the Brazos Food Bank or Scotty's House in Bryan, Texas would be greatly appreciated by the family.
