Grover H Sundberg(1922 - 2017)
Palestine - Grover H. Sundberg, 95, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He leaves his wife of 70 years, Hallie; son, David and his wife Donna; sister, Martha Allred; grandchildren, Brittany Rodriguez and her
husband Arnulfo (Ace), Jeremy Sundberg, Jay McDonald, Matthew Sundberg and Clayton McDonald; great grandchildren, Hallie Sundberg, Joaquin and Jacqueline Rodriguez; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry Sundberg and
Geneva Sundberg, brother; Harold Sundberg; daughter, Sandra McDonald, and grandchild, Mitchell McDonald. Born in Spofford, TX he later resided in Eagle Lake, Boerne, Ft Worth, Arlington, Alba and finally in Palestine, TX. Mr. Sundberg served in the Navy from
1940 to 1946 as a Chief Ship Fitter. During WWII, his ship, the USS Tennessee, sustained substantial damage. Fortunately he was some 25 miles inland from Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. He graduated from Texas A&M (class of 43) as a mechanical engineer and
he later worked at General Dynamics, Rocketdyne and LTV before retiring. He was an avid gardener, wood worker and wine maker. Mr. Sundberg planted and maintained a very nice vineyard which he used for his wine making. He was also a Mason for 65 years. He had
a zest for life, which was known by all. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on February 12th, 2017.
