Robert "Vic" Victor Johnston
August 19, 1925 - February 2, 2017

Dr. Robert Victor (Vic) Johnston, 91, of Lake Jackson died on Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was born August 19, 1925 in Bridgeport Texas to Charles Wesley Johnston and Cara Minnie Wolff Johnston. He was valedictorian of his Bridgeport High School class of 1941. He attended North Texas Agricultural College (now UTA) for 2 years prior to enlisting in the United States Navy Air Corp. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and completed his degree as a doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1948. He joined the staff of Allied Laboratories, a pharmaceutical and biological company in Indianapolis, Indiana. He married Margareth Jane Cole in 1948 and they had two children. In 1960, the Dow Chemical Company bought Allied Laboratories, and Dr. Johnston was named director of the Agricultural Research Laboratories in Midland, Michigan and Lake Jackson, Texas until his retirement in 1986. Dr. Johnston’s work included development and production of both human and veterinarian vaccines, world food production particularly bovine digestion, development of antibiotics, pharmaceuticals and seminal work on chronic low level chemical toxicity. He was honored with the commencement address at his Alma Mater, Texas A&M. After retirement, Dr. Johnston remained active as a volunteer at the Sea Center and The First Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson. Dr. Johnston was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, Jane, and three siblings. Vic is survived by his wife, Maxine Bagley Johnston whom he married in 1993, son, Dr. Robert V. Johnston, Jr and wife, Jessica of Lubbock, Texas, daughter, Carol Ann Johnston and husband, Don Gordon of Los Angeles, California, sister-in-law, Marion Johnston, stepchildren, John Bagley and Judith Hightower, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, one step-grandchild and 3 step-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM Monday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at The First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson, Texas with the Rev. Alan Trafford officiating. Interment will be at the West Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, Texas.
