A Funeral Mass for Ray H Lee, 96, of Arlington, Texas will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St Mary the Virgin Catholic Church, 1408 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas 76012. Burial will be Monday, February 13, 2017, 10:00 am, with full military honors at DFW National Veterans Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Church of St Mary the Virgin, or to a charity of the givers choice.
Ray Harold Lee was born February 6, 1920 on a farm near El Campo, Texas, the son of Bob and Irene Lee. He graduated from El Campo High School in 1936. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1940 and was commissioned in the Field Artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1942. Ray served as a n artillery unit commander in France and Germany during WWII. He was recalled to active duty in 1950, later transferred to the Ordinance Corps, and was designated specialist in Research and Atomic Energy. Other foreign assignments included Japan, Korea, and England. Mr. Lee retired from the U.S. Army in 1970 as a Colonel. After earning graduate degrees at Texas A&M he worked for the Texas Education Agency and several universities teaching graduate courses for vocational teachers and counselors, and retired in 1982.
COL Lee's hobbies were Occupational Research and travel. He and his second wife, Christine traveled extensively in Europe and the Far East. They moved to Arlington in 1991. He was a member of St Mary the Virgin Catholic Church, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Field Artillery Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame, and a Life Member of the Military Officers Association of America.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents;, an infant son Marion,; his first wife and the mother of his children, the former Marguerite Brecklin of Antigo, Wisconsin; a daughter, Judy Kraemer, a son, John W. Lee, a grandson, Chris Lee, and his second wife, the former Christine Korkmas Archer of Tyler, Texas.
Survivors include two sons, COL (Ret.) Brian Lee and wife Eloise of Foley, Alabama, Robert Lee and wife Sandy Reid of Chicago, Illinois, daughter, Teresa Proske of Denver, Colorado, step-daughter, Kerstin Archer M.D. and her husband Warren Ehn of Arlington, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
