Philip Fred "Bud" Hunter, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at home on January 19, 2017, after a long and hard fought battle with COPD. He was born on September 28, 1928, in Atlanta, GA where his father had been transferred to help establish a new Sears Roebuck store. They returned home to Dallas when Bud was 18 months old. He spent his childhood in Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School. One of his few regrets in life was that he was not born in Texas.

He was a Navy veteran of the Bikini Bomb Tests and the Korean War. He graduated from Texas A & M University and was a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1949.In 1955, he went to work for Motors Insurance Corp. in Dallas, the insurance division of General Motors, was transferred to Longview in 1957, and retired in 1989 as a Senior Adjustor. As a younger man he enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing and hunting. In later years, he enjoyed spending time at the family property in Cass County.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Maxine Hunter; children, Janice and Mike Mitchell, Scott and Claire Hunter, Bruce Hunter, Jahnell and Clint Tuel, Preston and Robin Tucker. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Inez Amirkhan; niece, Ellen Amirkhan; and nephew and wife, Drs. Nelson and Robin Amirkhan, all of Dallas. Grandchildren are Luke and Rachel Hunter, Katie and Aaron Amador, Morgan and Chase Hemingway, Jared and Hayley Tuel, Juliana Tuel, Kutter, Kollin and Keaton Tucker, Corrie Hunter, Clay Hunter and his Chihuahua, Puppy; five great-grandchildren also survive.

Per his wishes, cremation will be handled by Welch Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Animal Care and Adoption Center of Longview.
