John Kenneth Hynds
August 17, 1924 - January 11, 2017

John Kenneth (Johnny) Hynds, 92, of Van Alstyne passed away on January 11, 2017, as a result of complications from a stroke. He was the son of Helen and Henry Hynds and a 1941 graduate of Van Alstyne High School. Johnny entered Texas A&M College as a freshman in the fall of 1941 but left school at the end of his sophomore year to join the U. S. Navy. While training with the Navy Air Corps in Athens, Georgia, he suffered a broken ankle and was unable to pursue his desire to become a Navy pilot. He stayed in the Navy, stateside, until the end of World War II. Upon returning to Van Alstyne, he worked at The First National Bank (now Texas Star Bank) and later took over the management of the family’s farming and ranching business. Johnny is survived by his wife, Sandy, five daughters, Sarah Thorn (Craig), Cathy Stroud (Steve), Barby Johnson, Jennifer Gorman (Cary), and Marnie Norris, and stepchildren Kevin Hix (Catherine) and Terri Anne Fox (Nelson). Also surviving are his grandchildren Matt Thorn, Kara Thorn, Katie Jennings, Natalie Worley, Bradley Johnson, Chelsea Gorman, Amber Wilson, Lucas Norris, and Holly Norris, ten great grandchildren, sister Jane Robertson, brother Robert Hynds, nieces Tohnie Hynds and Kay Stuart, nephews Mike Hynds and Bill Benton, several great nieces and great nephews, and Margaret Chaddick, the mother of his daughters. He loved his family dearly and he will be missed by all. The family will be at Scoggins Funeral Home, Van Alstyne, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Friday, January 13, for anyone wishing to pay respects and say goodbye. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 2:00 PM at The First Christian Church of Van Alstyne followed by a time to visit. Burial will be held privately, for family members only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County, Box 2306, Sherman, TX 75091, First Christian Church of Van Alstyne, Box 626, Van Alstyne, TX 75495, or the donor’s favorite charity.
