John Gordon Jr.

John Everett Gordon Jr., 73, of Bryan passed away Tuesday December 6, 2016. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, December 8th, 2016, with light refreshments served. His life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, December 9th, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10th, at the Cathedral of the Pines Cemetery in Tyler, Texas.

John was born January 5, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, to John Everett Gordon Sr. and Dorothy Schwalenburg.

John attended High School in Beaumont, Texas where he played in a band with his classmates, Edgar and Johnny Winter. He also played in a band called The Boogie Kings. He graduated from Texas A&M with a B.S. degree in Animal Science in 1974. He was in charge of the beef center for a short time at Texas A&M after his graduation. He resided in Bryan, Texas for 42 years and was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. He retired in 2003 from the USDA. He was the County Executive Director for the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service. He served Brazos, Grimes and Robertson counties. He loved the game of golf and was really good at it.

He was preceded in death by both parents.

Survivors include his loving wife Cindy Gordon, of Bryan; daughter, Dori Beard; and grandson Chandler Hicks.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations in John memory to the Brazos Animal Shelter at 5359 Leonard Rd., Bryan TX 77807, or to Chrissy’s Closet at College View High School in College Station.
