Mike Kohlman

Mike Kohlman went to be with our Lord on October 2, 2016, after an extended illness. Mike was born on December 11, 1943, in Fort Myers, Florida, to Joe Billie and Laura Fred Furgason Kohlman. Mike’s father was a B-29 pilot during World War II. At the age of 21, Mike’s father was the oldest pilot in his squadron.

After the war, the family moved to Jal, New Mexico, where his father was employed by El Paso Natural Gas. Mike grew up in Jal and excelled in many sports. He was All State in football his junior and senior years. He was heavily recruited by major colleges and chose to attend Texas A & M. After graduating in 1965, Mike went to work for State Supply Company in Houston. This later became All State Chemical; they became involved in the Beefmaster industry, and Triple J owned ranches in South Texas. After years with Triple J, Mike continued ranching on his own. He later worked for Affiliated Service in San Antonio. Mike retired in December of 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Jana Givens Almendarez.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sammie Huff Kohlman of George West; and his daughter, Kristi (Robert) Sklar of East Bernard, Texas; his son, Joe Mark (Karen) of Ledbetter, Texas; his sister, Pam (Don) Givens of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, Cade Sklar of Midland, Texas, Sierra Sklar Avery (Cade) of Levelland, Texas, Joe Blake Kohlman of Beeville, Jay Bennett Kohlman of Ledbetter, Texas; brother-in law, Jim Huff (Deri Lynn) of Three Rivers; nephews, Chris Almendarez of Round Rock, Texas, Weston Huff of Three Rivers, Justin Terry (Bethany) of Anchorage, Alaska, Ryan Terry (Kammie) of Spring, Texas; niece, Ashlyn Huff of Three Rivers; cousins, Beverly Disheroon of Graham, Texas and Sherry McGillicuddy of Marble Falls, Texas.

Visitation was Wednesday, October 5, 2016, from 5-7 pm at Galloway Funeral Home, Three Rivers, and funeral services were Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers. Interment followed at the Three Rivers Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jana’s House, an orphanage home for girls in Zambia in memory of his niece Jana. www.RREXPRESS.com.
