Eriksson, Nancy J.

With profound sadness and regret we inform you today of Nancy J. Eriksson's passing on September 13, 2016, after a short battle with cancer. She was 69.

A resident of Door County for 25 years, Nancy was born on June 25, 1947, in Mount Kisco, NY. Nancy was a life-long learner: she earned a Masters in mathematics from the State University of New York and was very close to finishing her math dissertation at Texas A&M. However, before fully completing that dissertation, she decided to follow her calling and pursue a Bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin. After considering various masters programs, Nancy moved from Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, to California two years ago to attend Santa Clara University, where she earned her Masters of Arts Degree in Counseling shortly before her death. Her dream was to work with terminally ill clients.

In addition to her coursework at Santa Clara, and through sheer determination and will, Nancy was simultaneously working towards her Yoga Alliance Certification to become an instructor at the Ananda Yoga Center in Palo Alto. She firmly believed yoga and its teachings would enhance the other academic aspects of her degree.

Nancy was smart, dedicated, funny, loving, and passionate about life and everyone she encountered in it. Always full of energy, always curious and eager to learn and do, she enjoyed a variety of hobbies: knitting, sewing, camping, sailing, music, art, reading, yoga, and meditation. Being a good friend and person. Throughout her life she helped and inspired many individuals, including her new student cohort at Santa Clara.

While in Door County she was affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and Junction Center Yoga Studio. She and her late husband, Erik Eriksson, were active supporters of several arts and music programs on the Peninsula. Nancy's passing is a great loss for her family and for her many friends in the Door County community and beyond.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, R. Erik Eriksson, in 2008. She is survived by her son, Michael Eriksson, of Tyler, Texas, her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Charles Ensley of Santa Rosa, CA, two nieces, a grandnephew, and a grandniece.

Memorial services in Door County are planned for Summer 2017. Details will be announced in late Spring. Memorial donations may be made to Midsummer's Music Festival, P.O. Box 1004, Sister Bay, WI 54234. Please note that your donation is for Nancy's memorial concert, taking place during Midsummer's 2017 summer season.
