Matthew John Hoysa Jr.
Matthew John Hoysa, Junior, of Cornelius, passed away October 8th at home peacefully with family at his side. He was a strong, courageous gentleman who battled cancer for 14 years before joining His Lord and Savior. He was born Aug 16, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois
to the late Matthew Hoysa, Senior and Ruth Hoysa. He is survived by his loving wife, Patti, of 50 years and four children - Susan (Doug) Polizzi, Cynthia (Dave)Worley, Matthew John III (Danielle )and Michael (Mariana) and 8 grandchildren - Jack, Lauren, Stella,
Sophia, Bridget, Matthew IV, Katerina and Michael junior. In addition, he is survived by 2 brothers Tom (Jean) and Chuck (Jennifer) and his only cousin Mary (Tom) Borecki who was like a sister to him. His parents-in-law, Leo and Marthann Blatz and his brother-in-law
John Blatz also survive along with numerous nephews and a niece.
Matt grew up in a military family and lived in California, South Carolina, Japan, and Germany as a child. He graduated from Texas A&M University with honors and after graduation was commissioned as an Army Lieutenant. He married Patti in 1966 and in 1967, a
day after his daughter was born, he headed to Vietnam. He was extremely proud of his military service but left the military to pursue life in the corporate arena. The family moved to Miami Florida and for the next 30 years Matt and Patti raised 4 wonderful
children while Matt worked for various banking, real estate and Insurance companies; during this time he also obtained an MBA from Florida International University. In 1998, the couple moved to Cornelius where Matt enjoyed a wonderful retirement.
A man is measured by many standards but the most important ones to Matt were his faith, family and friends. Everyone agreed he was a prince among men. He will be missed for his wit, his intelligence, his love and kindness, his quirky sense of humor, his ability
to fix almost anything, his generosity and friendship. Amazingly, "Hurricane Matthew" blew through the Caribbean and southern US as Matt was passing his final days on earth. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to "serve HAITI" to rebuild the school
in Grand- Bois in his name. The address is ServeHAITI, 999 Peachtree St NE suite 2300 Atlanta, Ga 30309 Attn:Dr Wayne Book or www.servehaiti.org. Please note to add "In memory of Matt Hoysa".
The funeral service will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church at 11 AM Friday, October 14 with military honors following the service. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday, October 13 at James Funeral Home in Huntersville.
