Gary Don Hendley, aged 60 years, died September 29, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
Gary was born in Waxahachie, Texas to Joe Don and Maxine Hendley. He grew up in Euless where he graduated from Trinity High School and then obtained his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M (class of '78) in electrical engineering. He worked at Oncor for 41 years.

Gary was most known for his friendly smile and “Howdy!” greeting. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was sought by family, friends, and co-workers for both his wisdom and math expertise. It might have taken him a long time to answer your conundrum, but when the answer came it was right, true, and wise. Gary read widely, including a variety of biographies, had been working on learning Spanish for several years, and enjoyed watching NASCAR on the weekends. He placed second in the World Championship Slide Rule Competition, loved to swim, and was interested in astronomy as well. Gary was a hard worker both in the office and around the house and was skilled at tinkering and repairing things. There was no problem too complex for him to solve and no broken object he couldn’t fix.

Being a dad was his favorite thing…until he became a Granddaddy. Gary loved spending time with his family. Evenings after work found him playing tag, frisbee, baseball, and basketball with his kids; in more recent years it was Little Tykes golf, pecan picking, and swimming with the grandkids. He was unfailingly kind, gentle, giving, extraordinarily intelligent, funny, abundantly patient, faithful, and humble. His great love was his Lord and Savior and his service to the church. We are devastated to lose such a special man and take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering but in a new body.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Joe Hendley. He is survived by his wife Karen of 35 years; son Wesley & wife Kaysi; daughter Suzanne & husband Jake Brown; daughter Allison & fiancé Bryan Pease; his mother Maxine & brother Mark; and his grandchildren Asher, Caroline, & Barrett.
