Shannon West Zureich passed away September 24, 2016 surrounded by her loving family—Greg, her husband of 18 years, her daughters Zoey and Darby, and her mother. The only child of Pamela Ann Nabors and the late Howard Fred West, Shannon was born in Houston, Texas. She was 43 years old.
After graduating from Cypress Creek High School, Shannon attended Texas A&M University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in School Psychology from Sam Houston State University. Shannon had a long and productive career as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, mostly in Spring ISD. Throughout her career she made many long-lasting professional friendships while helping countless students.
Shannon was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in May 2010 and underwent a year of rigorous treatment. A month after completing treatment, Shannon's father became ill and unexpectedly died—leaving Shannon a business to run. Shannon took on this challenge, putting her LSSP career on hold. She met with success in the business world, but unfortunately, Shannon's breast cancer metastasized (spread to other parts of her body) and in July 2013 she returned to the world of cancer treatment, which for a metastatic patient continues for the rest of their life.
Shannon lived with metastatic breast cancer (stage 4 breast cancer) for three years as the cancer grew in her bones and eventually moved into her lungs. In that time, she worked to promote awareness of this form of the disease—appearing on multiple Houston-area television and radio programs to talk about the realities of stage 4 cancer and help raise money to fight it.
Her greatest joy was being a mother to her talented, beautiful girls and being a partner in marriage with the love of her life, Greg. Shannon prided herself on being a good friend who cultivated life-long relationships. To those who knew and loved her Shannon was a loyal, kind, generous, intelligent, witty, and passionate person. Shannon had a great love of music, and she was devoted to her Boston terrier, "Murphy." In addition to her beloved husband and daughters, Shannon is survived by her cherished mother and step-father Jack W. Nabors and an extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins, all of whom she deeply loved.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, September 28th at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home, 9926 Jones Rd, Houston, TX 77065. The funeral will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 29th at the same location. Interment will immediately follow the service at Earthman Resthaven Cemetary.
