Glenn L. Tole, Sr.
August 11, 1921 - August 14, 2016

Glenn L. Tole Sr. passed away Sunday, August 1[4], 2016. He was a member of the Greatest Generation, having served his country during World War II. He was honored with a small birthday party on Aug. 11, his 95th birthday. He was a man of faith and courage. He loved his church, his family and his country.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, Sept. 3 at First Christian Church where Mr. Tole was a member since 1957. Dr. David Hartman will officiate. A visitation will follow in the church parlor. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Glenn was born August 11, 1921 in Thalia, Tx, the youngest of ten children. He grew up on a cotton farm during the depression. It was probably here that his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility were formed.
After graduating from Crowell High School, Glenn went to Texas A&M to earn a degree in Agriculture. After his junior year her met and married Sara Wanda Robbins. Upon graduation in 1943, Glenn joined the Marine Corps and was sent to Quantico VA. Glenn II was born while he was deployed. Glenn was then sent to the South Pacific, ending up in the Philippines by the end of World War II.
Upon returning home to Fort Worth, he became a county agent for Tarrant County, but was recalled to active duty in the Marines to serve in Korea. This would be the coldest winter on record in Korea. He always disliked cold weather after that experience and declined invitations to family ski trips.
After serving in Korea, he returned to Fort Worth and became the Executive Director for the newly formed Texas Angus Association.
In 1957 the family moved to Wichita Falls to go into the farm machinery business with his brother-in-law. He later purchased the business that became the Glenn Tole Equipment Company. He was on call for customers whose equipment broke down at inopportune times and was highly respected by employees and customers alike.
Retirement meant taking up golf and enjoying travel. The couple enjoyed several winters in Palm Springs California and made many friends there. Glenn was a faithful member of First Christian Church, serving on the board in many capacities. He was named Elder Emeritus. He was a member of the Wichita Falls Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a volunteer at Interfaith Ministries. The couple enjoyed dancing and were members of several dance clubs, including the Big Band Dance Club. Wanda passed away in 1998.
Glenn enjoyed family gatherings, especially those involving Aggie football games, when his grandchildren were attending A&M. Win or lose, there were always enchilada dinners after the game. He loved attending the weddings of the three grandchildren and later, visiting with great grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sports-Golf, the Cowboys and the Rangers as well as the Aggies. He loved being outdoors and was always improving his rose garden.
In TOM BROCKOW’S book, THE GREATEST GENERATION, characteristics of the Greatest Generation consist of personal responsibility, humble nature, work ethic, prudent saving, and faithful commitment. Glenn Tole was the embodiment of all of these.
He is survived by his son Glenn Tole II and wife Linda, three children, Timothy Glenn and wife Andrea of Austin; Tracie Cross and husband Trey of Pearland, Tx, and Allyson Schnick and husband Bryan of Missouri City, Tx. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Tennyson and Sailor Tole, Lauren, Alex and Reed Cross, and Lillian, Landon and Sophia Schnick. He is also survived by special friends Kim Klenk and Sally Surles.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Gables and the aides and nurses from Hospice of Wichita Falls for their care. If desired, memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 3701 Taft Blvd, Wichita Falls, Tx 76308, Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Tx 76309, or the charity of choice.
