Jack L. Turner, M.D., a retired physician, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his home. Service: 9 a.m. Friday at St. John's Anglican Church, 2401 College Avenue, Fort Worth. The Rev. William T. Estes will officiate and The Rev. David F. Klein will assist. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson and Cole. Pallbearers will be David, Michael and Patrick Pacheco and Brad, Turner and Clayton Rejebian. Memorials: Should friends desire, gifts in his memory may be made to St. John's Anglican Church, 2401 College Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76110. Jack Llewellyn Turner was born Dec. 10, 1922, in Fort Worth to Charles C. Turner and Vivian Shropshire Turner. He graduated from R. L. Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas A&M in 1946 and from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1948. He completed his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Charity Hospital of Louisiana in New Orleans in 1954. He was in the ROTC at Texas A&M and was called to active duty, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in the Heavy Weapons Division of the infantry. During this time, he was stationed at Camp Roberts in California. He was recalled to active duty as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps from 1951 to 1953 (Korean War) and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Upon completion of his residency, he returned to Fort Worth in 1954 to begin private practice. He practiced obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) for 50 years, retiring in 2004. For approximately ten years from 1957 to 1967, he was an Assistant Professor of OB/GYN at Parkland Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. At the same time, he was the obstetrician for the Homestead Child Placement Agency which was under the direction of Pastor T. E. Durham, PhD. For several years, he was a volunteer physician at the free clinics at John Peter Smith, St. Joseph and Harris Hospitals and was the obstetrician for Carswell Air Force Base. Dr. Turner was a member of many professional organizations including: Tarrant County Medical Society (Life Member), Texas Medical Association (Life Member), American College of Surgeons, North Texas Chapter (Life Member), American College of OB/GYN (Life Member), Texas Association of OB/GYN (Life Member), Association of OB/GYN, Central Association of OB/GYN (Life Member), Southern Medical Association, American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, Tulane Medical Alumni Association, Conrad Collins Society of OB/GYN of Tulane University, Association of Professors of GYN/Obstetrics, Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Other affiliations include: American Red Cross (35 years), Family and Individual Services Agency, Tarrant County Mental Health Association, Tarrant County Arts Council, American Cancer Society, National Polio Foundation, Fort Worth Knife and Fork Club and the Fort Worth Opera Association (18 years on the Board and Vice-President). He was a member of the Board of Education for the Fort Worth Independent School District (1976 to 1978), serving during the time of the controversy over single-member districts. Dr. Turner was one of two members on the board who volunteered to resign, allowing Judge Mahon the authority to go ahead and implement the single member districts. Otherwise, Judge Mahon would have had to vacate all of the seats on the board to satisfy the court order. Dr. Turner served several two-month tours as a volunteer professor of OB/GYN for the Hospital Ship HOPE and Care/Medico between 1970 and 1990, teaching physicians, interns and residents in the following countries: Afghanistan (two tours), Brazil (three tours), Indonesia, Jamaica, Tunisia and St. Vincent Island. He served as a volunteer physician and consultant at the Afghan OB/GYN Hospital for the Afghan Refugee Program in Peshawar, Pakistan. He loved to travel and traveled the globe, having visited over 50 countries. He recently talked fondly about one of his last trips, which was to China. He was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason for over 70 years. Dr. Turner was a life-long and faithful member of St. John's Anglican Church, which he joined in 1947. He served several terms on the Vestry and as senior warden. We celebrate his life of service as a dedicated physician, loyal friend and vibrant volunteer. He loved his medical practice and patients. He delivered thousands of babies and loved that aspect of his practice. Dr. Turner was also a prolife physician that enjoyed politics and was a long-time member of the Republican Party. He had an outgoing personality with an intellectual and amiable sense of humor, often joking and laughing. Jack had a deep love for his country and could recite a wealth of history. Dr. Turner touched many thousands of lives through his medical practice and never met a stranger. The family would like to express a special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Allan Kelly and his staff for their compassionate and professional care of Dr. Turner over the years; Dr. Turner delivered Drs. Allan and Robert Kelly. A special thanks also to Mr. Jay King, for his weekly visits and Bible study. Dr. Turner was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor; his son, Dr. Jack L. Turner II; his brothers, Charles and Louie Turner; and his mother and stepfather, Vivian and Calvin Smith. Survivors: Wife, Barbara; children, Dyer Ramahi, Daly Turner and Conrad Turner and wife, Irma, Sherwood Rejebian and husband, Brad, and Christopher Turner and wife, Holly; grandchildren, Ahmad Ramahi and wife, Rosa, Charlotte Stoltzfus, Turner and Clayton Rejebian, and Carter, Gage and Knox Turner; great-grandchildren, Zakariya and Ariana Ramahi, his Brazilian family, Nelson Macedo and wife, Tamara, and their children, Lucas and Lucy; special and devoted friend, George Joe, PhD; and nieces and nephews, Betty Pacheco, Jackie Turner and Louie Turner.
