Marvin Lebman
July 16, 2016
Marvin Lebman, husband - father - grandfather - great grandfather - entrepreneur, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2016 at the age of 88. Marvin and younger brother Jerry were the sons of the late Hyman Saul Lebman and Molly Schwartzman and stepmother Minnie Levine. Born in Laredo, Marvin was raised in San Antonio. He was a 1940 graduate of San Antonio Academy, a 1944 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, a very proud member of the Aggie Corps and a Class of 1948 graduate of Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

Upon graduation, Marvin began working in the family business "Lebman's", originally a saddle and leatherworks store located at 111 South Flores. Marvin met his wife-to-be, Geraldine Rodis, in high school but they did not date until being reintroduced after college. Marvin was drafted into the Army and soon sent to Officer Candidate School graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant. Although all aspects of a December 24th ,1950 wedding had been planned, the date had accidentally not been cleared by the Army who had assigned Marvin guard duty that date. Due to a hand-signed personal letter from then "Senator" Lyndon Baines Johnson to the Army requesting Lt. Lebman be allowed to attend his own wedding, the date was finally approved. Marvin was soon sent with the Army Corps of Engineers to participate in the Korean War. Marvin and Geraldine loved being an Army family but the family business soon called him; so Marvin was honorably discharged in 1955

With an expanding family and business, Marvin decided to pursue his interest in law and became a 1964 graduate of St. Mary's University College of Law and member of the State Bar of Texas. Marvin and Geraldine were long-time members of Temple Beth-El and founding members of Shadywood Swim Club (now GreenTree Swim and Racquet Club). They traveled the world and retired for almost 10 years to their beloved Vancouver, Canada. Medical needs necessitated their move back to San Antonio in 2006. Marvin was also a published author of articles and a book of humor.

Marvin is survived by his 4 children: Missy (Ron) Grantham of San Antonio, Riki (Dave) Mesiar of Anchorage, Alaska, Stephanie Lebman of San Antonio, and Andrew (Sheryl) Lebman of Missouri City, Texas, his grand-children Zachary (Susan) Grantham, Samuel (Jennifer) Grantham and Kathryn and
Madeline Lebman and great-grandchildren Lucy, Blake and Opal Grantham of Austin; and his niece Peggy (Tom) Lebman Quinn of Coppell, Texas and many other family members. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Rodis Lebman, as well as his brother Jerry and nephew Samuel Clayton Quinn. Marvin requested no memorial service; only the spreading of his ashes in the same place that Geraldine's ashes had been spread in Portage Creek (Anchorage), Alaska. If so moved, in honor of Marvin's memory, please consider a donation to The Samuel Clayton Quinn Memorial Scholarship in Electrical Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington
