STAN WINSLOW(1926 - 2016)
August 5, 1926 - July 28, 2016 OKLAHOMA CITY Joseph Stanley "Stan" Winslow was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Waco, TX to Fred H. "Chief" Winslow and Lucile Rhinehart Winslow. Growing up in Waco, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ruth Steig. After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Stan attended Texas A&M, receiving a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1947. After college, Stan went to work for Hammond Industries of Waco, TX, a national manufacturer of commercial and dry cleaning equipment, where he quickly rose to the position of plant manager. At the age of 32, he was promoted to National Sales Representative for everything east of the Mississippi River and moved his family to Columbus, OH for two years. In 1960, he became a partner with his brother-in-law, Bill Cunningham, in Oklahoma City. Arrow Machinery Co. was a statewide distributor of coin operated and commercial laundry equipment. In 1965, the company was divided and Stan formed his own business, Commercial Equipment Co. Stan sold his business in 1978, and he and Margaret moved to the Jemez Mountains near Los Alamos, NM. This was to be their retirement home, but anyone that knew Stan knew it was impossible for him to retire. He built and sold three houses by himself in the mountains of New Mexico, two in Jemez Springs and one in Angel Fire. In 1984, Stan and Margaret returned to Oklahoma City. Stan formed a new company called Winslow Engineering, servicing commercial laundry equipment, which he operated until his death at age 89. Stan and Margaret were longtime members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. They enjoyed visiting family in California, Texas and New York as well as many other trips, including Europe. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren. Stan stayed active to the end of his life, lending his many talents to his family's projects and to others in need. He worked every day up until a week before he died, just shy of his 90th birthday. He was a man who led by example and was much admired and loved by all. Stan was preceded in death by Margaret, his wife of 61 years, who died in 2005; his parents, Fred and Lucile; his brother, Edgar Avon Winslow and wife Esther Steig Winslow; and his granddaughter, Cathy Friedemann Baradell. He is survived by his sisters, Cynthia Colton and Daisy Winslow Mitchell, both of Oklahoma City; his four children, Lynette Friedemann and husband Alan, of Edmond, OK; Dr. Clinton Winslow, MD, of OKC; Kenneth Winslow and wife Jean Tucker, of New York City; and Marti Barker and husband Garry, of Bakersfield, CA; six grandchildren, Gwen Laird, of Edmond, OK; Nathan Winslow and his wife Susanna, of Austin, TX; Alexis Winslow and husband Brian, of New York City; Bridget Freeborn and her sister, Dorianna Barker, of Bakersfield, CA; and Brian Winslow, of OKC; and six great-grandchildren, Alexander, Javen, Bradley, Juliet, Benjamin, and Tucker. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, Fred, Janet, Debbie, Connie, Kim, Mack, and Sherman. The Funeral will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 222 N.W. 15th St., OKC, Monday Aug. 1, 2016, at 10 a.m. with Graveside Services to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, 2700 N.
