Bennie Harold Lenox of Bertram, Texas passed away July 16, 2016. Born the fourth child to John Franklin Lenox and Laura Parker Lenox on September 24, 1941 in Madisonville, Texas. Madison County, Texas.

Bennie is survived by his wife, Kathy, brothers Joe "Scooter" Lenox (Berry Lynn); Dwayne "Curly" Lenox (Wanda), children Gayle Loyd (Steve); Laura Sandmann (Rick); Bennie Lenox, Jr. (Debbie), Stepchildren Guerin Spivey; Kristi McCurley (Rick), ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Winifred Morgan and Faye Lee, and brother James Lenox.

Bennie's dad, John, was employed by Humble Pipeline Co. and he moved the family to Webster, Texas and then to League City, Texas where Bennie attended schools. Bennie graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1960. During his three years in high school, Bennie excelled in multiple sports, but his true passion was basketball. Honors accumulated and he was All-State his junior and senior years. His sharpshooting and scoring ability gained him a scholarship to play basketball at Texas A&M University. Bennie's transition from high school to college ball was flawless. Honors and accomplishments continued at A&M plus multiple All-SWC selections, All American, Olympic Trials. The list goes on and on, all so well deserved.

Besides all of his athletic prowess, he excelled academically and was a born leader.

Upon graduation from Texas A&M in 1964 Bennie was employed in the insurance industry after declining to play professionally when he was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets. He coached basketball at the University of Texas for a number of years before going to work in the lumber industry until his retirement.

Bennie was an avid and very talented golfer, loved hunting and enjoying the comaraderie of the deer lease. He could cook anything, but he especially loved the open pit. He was an extremely talented woodworker and could build anything he wanted. However, his legacy is that he was the most loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle any family could ever have.

Visitation will be held Monday July 18, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday July 19, 2016 at 10 am at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, with internment to follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill.
