Thomas G. Rockenbaugh
(Rocky)
April 2, 1926 - July 10, 2016

Thomas G. Rockenbaugh was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Thomas will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

He was the son of Robert and Glennie Rockenbaugh.

Thomas was raised with one brother, Robert. Thomas was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his brother but they shared many life experiences over the years.

Thomas enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Thomas was able to manage the balancing act. Thomas graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in range and forestry.

Empathic and loyal, Thomas was committed to making his new family happy.

Thomas worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Thomas was blessed with one son, Rob and one daughter Vicki. He also had two step-children, C.J. and Nancy. Another blessing for Thomas was the gift of six grandchildren Chris, Shannon, D'Andra, Lance, Michele, Lexi, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Fortunately, Thomas enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Thomas worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. He began his career in 1951 with the Soil Conservation Service. He served in various roles throughout Texas before becoming SCS assistant state conservationist for Louisiana and deputy state conservationist for Kansas. In 1975 he was appointed to state conservationist for Arizona. He moved to Washington as SCS assistant chief for the Southwestern states in 1981. Thomas always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

He served his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.

Thomas passed away on July 10, 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Glennie Rockenbaugh; his wife, Mary Lois; and his brother, Robert Hayden Rockenbaugh. Survivors: His loving wife of 43 years, Del Rockenbaugh; children, Vickie Rockenbaugh, Rob Rockenbaugh and wife, Darlene; stepchildren, C. J. Witten and husband, Alan, Nancy Cooper and husband, David; grandchildren, Chris, Shannon, D'Andra, Lance, Michele, Lexi; and 18 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Colleyville, Texas. Thomas was laid to rest in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, Texas.

Simply stated, Thomas was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Thomas leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Thomas G. Rockenbaugh.
