James Dean Cook – May 24, 2016

James “Jim” Dean Cook, age 58, passed away on May 24, 2016 from complications of diabetes and heart disease.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2016 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Gene Shelburne officiating.

Jim was born in Amarillo on October 7, l957 to Virginia Sue Bradley and James Henry Dean. After the untimely death of his father, Jim was adopted by James E. Cook after he married Sue in March 1960. Jim graduated from Amarillo High School in 1976 and from Texas A&M University in 1980. He graduated from Southwest Medical School in 1984 and did his residency in Ophthalmology at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. He attended Harvard Business School and graduated with an MBA degree. After graduating he did consulting work in Dallas, TX and Johannesburg, South Africa. He later returned to the medical profession and practiced in the Dallas area. He was a talented physician, businessman and writer, and an engaging conversationalist.

Jim struggled with addiction during multiple periods of his life. Spending his last years in his hometown, he was instrumental in helping others to sobriety and witnessing his faith in God. He was deeply loved by his family and loyal friends.

He is survived by daughters Elise Norcini and husband Mark and their son Gabriel, Emily Bowden and husband Matthew and their sons Charlie and Grant, Natalie Owens and husband Seth and their sons Eric and Everett and their mother Leanne Linden; daughters Olivia and Laura Cook, and son Jonathan Cook and their mother Karen Cook; father Dr. Jim Cook, brother Brad Cook and wife Tina, sister Mary Kay Mikalic and husband John, three nieces and a nephew, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jim will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
