Joe K. McGill SEMINOLE-Funeral services for Joe K. McGill, 84, of Seminole will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the MS Doss Community Chapel with interment to follow in the Gaines County Cemetery under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home. Joe was born in Seminole, Texas, to Roy and Ione Ward McGill on Dec. 25, 1931. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1949, attended Tarlton Jr. College from 1949 to 1950 when he transferred to Texas A & M University, was a member of the Corps of Cadets until his graduation in 1953, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. He had worked for Halliburton, Amerada, Texaco, and owned Andrews Lumber Yard. Joe married Sandra Dale Wilks on July 12, 1963 in Longview, TX. He entered St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio graduating in 1963 and has just received his certificate for 50 years of practice. They had a son, Kelley Dale in 1967 and a daughter, Martha Lee who passed away Nov. 26, 1969. Joe was elected as Gaines County Attorney in 1969 and served until 1989 when he and Bill Curry acquired Gaines County Abstract Company. Joe participated in various civic organizations including the Rotary and Lions Clubs, The Seminole Economic Development Commission, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Joe has served as President of The MS Doss Foundation Board since 1987. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra; his son, Kelley and his wife, Stacey McGill of Little Rock, AR; his sister, Marguerite Gillispie of Henryetta, OK; his grandchildren, Jessica McGill, Aidan McGill, and Taylor Dovers; one great-grandson, Silas McPherson; his Gaines County Abstract family, Jeannie Marrow, Denise Curry, Deborah Landrum, Yolanda Gonzalez, Janie Esquivel, Kimberly Duran, Maria Garcia, Debbie Frazell, Joe Nelson, Jean Nelson, Cynthia Neitsch, and Katie Villalva; and the MS Doss Foundation Family, Sharla Jeter, Lori Bagwell, and Shirley Whisenant. Donations may be made to the children's or the First United Methodist Church. Family and friends visitation will be Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Ratliff Funeral Home.
