Donald D. Metzger
Born: July 11, 1940
Died: June 22, 2016
Donald D. Metzger, age 75, of Alma, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Warwick Living Center in Alma. He was born July 11, 1940 in Leon, Kansas the son of James Irvin and Mabel Marie (Heimer) Metzger. He was a 1958 graduate of El Dorado High School and earned a Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Kansas in 1962. On January 27, 1963 he married Carol Sue Ammons and together they raised five children and welcomed 13 foster children into their home.
Don made his career as a Chemical Engineer with PPG Industries, working from 1963 until his retirement in 1994. During that time he obtained a Master’s Degree from Texas A & M and after retirement continued to consult with the company until his health no longer allowed.
Don enjoyed fishing, classic cars and woodworking. He was an avid reader, especially biographies and anything written by or about Winston Churchill.
Don is survived by two sons, Alan (Wendy) Metzger of Ft. Collins, CO, Jason (Misty) Metzger of Alma, two daughters, Amy Morgan of Moore, OK and Bonnie (Rob) Bisson of Dexter, 11 grandchildren, Molly, Noah, Lexi, Payton, Avreigh, Morgan, Tyler, Emma, Hunter, Holland and Hudsen and a brother, James Irvin Metzger of St. Louis, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sue in 2013 and his son, Justin in 2003.
A grave side service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10 am at the Riverside Cemetery in Alma. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23rd from 6 to 9 pm at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
