Wendell E. Koenig
June 24, 1937 - June 17, 2016

Wendell Edwin Koenig, 78, of Austin passed away at his home on June 17, 2016. He was born in Yorktown, Texas on June 24, 1937 to Ed and Lola Koenig. He married Carol Compton on June 5, 1965.

Wendell attended Texas A&M University to become a teacher and taught in Cuero, Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, and Austin. He taught Distributive Marketing and Education classes at Crockett High School in Austin. He was active in the DECA organization as well as the Elks Lodge and Ben Hur Shrine. He did a lot of “clowning” around with the Shriners and became Potentate in 2003.

Wendell loved to travel, driving on many vacations to explore the states, but he also loved going on many cruises. He loved spending time with his grandkids building fires in the chemenea, watching Aggie football, and other various shenanigans. He was a faithful servant of God, a loyal family man, and a loving and doting father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Koenig; three daughters, Kimberley Koenig, Kasey Koenig Edmundson and her husband, Adrian, and Callie Clarkson and her husband, Jared; five grandchildren, Alexandria, Logan, Taylor, Andrew, and Ryan.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Ben Hur Shrine Temple, 7811 Rockwood, Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to any Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
