Norma L. Gonzalez(1958 - 2016)
December 3, 1958 - June 8, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, aunt and friend, Norma L. Gonzalez. Norma courageously fought Lupus and other serious health issues for the last twenty years. She was born December 3, 1958 in Brownsville, Texas and peacefully journeyed into eternal rest while sleeping on June 8, 2016. Norma was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Aurora Gonzalez. She is survived by her siblings, Robert Gonzalez and his wife, Mingfang from Houston, Anna M. Garcia and her husband, Carlos; her niece and nephew, Jessica and Andres Garcia, all from San Antonio, and many close, life-long friends that formed an extended family for her. Norma graduated from Porter High School in Brownsville, where she excelled in Track and Field, competing on the state level in Discus and serving as student body president. At Texas A&M University, College Station, she was a member of the Women's Bowling team and received her Finance degree in 1981. At that time, she embarked on a 30-year career with AT&T. Norma began her tenure with AT&T in San Antonio, but also held positions with the company in Houston and St. Louis, returning here when corporate headquarters relocated. Norma served in several capacities, rising to the position of Executive Director. She served at AT&T with fierce loyalty, tremendous energy, and an incomparable work ethic, whether it was as pitcher for the company softball team at Nationals or receiving accolades for the Diversity program she implemented, she gave her all to the company and retired in 2012. Norma leaves behind a small, but united and loving family, and countless friends who never ceased to offer their caring assistance and perpetual love. We would like to sincerely thank her physicians, Dr. Steven Rosenblatt and Dr. Ruth Berggren for their exceptional level of care and for their service and friendship. Norma had the highest respect for both of them. Thank you to her physical therapists, nurses, and caregivers who worked so diligently and lovingly to help relieve Norma from the excruciating pain she experienced daily. God Bless you all. Norma, as everyone knows, was an Aggies, Cowboys and Spurs fanatic. Please wear her favorite colors of maroon, blue, or silver and black to honor her teams.
