George William Bowling(1922 - 2016)
George William Bowling, 93, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016, in Glen Rose. Service: Visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury with a service of remembrance to follow at 4 p.m. Interment: Military graveside with honors at 10:30
a.m. Thursday, June 2, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Mr. Bowling was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Sherman to George Andrew and Era Kathalene Welch Bowling. He graduated from Texas A&M with a BA degree in education. In 1943, he entered the Army Air Corps
and advanced rapidly to become the aircraft commander of a B-17 at the age of 20. He was assigned to 8th Air Force and flew 35 combat missions over Germany in World War II. Following the war, he continued his involvement in education as a teacher at Hines
Junior College in Raymond, Miss., until 1951. At that time, he joined American Airlines. During his 31 years at American, he served as a union representative, instructor pilot, assistant chief pilot and captain. He was preceded by his parents; wives, Alice
Lon Bowling, Betty June Bowling and Betty Kelly Bowling; and sisters, Gerry Bowling Vinson and Doris Bowling Horn. Survivors: Sons, Bob and Cathy Bowling of Atlanta, Ga., Clint and Nancy Bowling of Woodstock, Ga., Larry Bowling of Cripple Creek, Colo., and
Randy and Carol Speed of Plano; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
