John Reynolds
Reynolds, John Ferguson (Jack) John Ferguson (Jack) Reynolds was born August 23, 1924 to Isabel (Bell) Louise Ferguson Reynolds and Albert Walter Reynolds in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and departed this life on March 1, 2012. He married Nell Bertram Coad Reynolds on November 24, 1950, in Tallulah, Louisiana and they moved immediately to Dallas where the remained for 61 years. Mr. Reynolds grew up in Canton, South Dakota, in the house his father built. He served in the United States Army, 104th Infantry Division, the "Timberwolves". The division fought in Belgium, France, and Germany in such actions as the Bulge and the Bridge at Remagen, and liberated the concentration camp at Nordhausen. Mr. Reynolds completed his education at A&M in 1947, and worked as a civil and structural engineer with the Dallas Water Utilities for 32 years. Jack's two greatest passions were serving his church and woodworking, and he combined these to create many beautiful pieces for St. James Episcopal Church in Dallas and several other churches in Texas. Mr. Reynolds served several terms as Junior Warden of St. James, continued to work on a yard crew well into his 80s, and supervised the building of the present sanctuary and many other structures. He loved his woodworking friends, who assisted him in building the beautiful 10-foot cross which is now suspended in the sanctuary. Jack was also s great friend to those in need: he never passed by someone in trouble on the road, at a street corner, or on the sidewalk with out stopping to help. Mr. Reynolds is survived by his daughter Nancy Reynolds Bratteli and husband Niel, grandsons John Oniel Bratteli and Paul Allen Bratteli, sister-in-law Carolyn Coad Rich, nieces and nephews Mike Barbour, Betsy Reynolds Zachry, Rick Reynolds, Jane Rich Smith, Charles Rich, Ann Coad Harris, Turner Coad, and Steve Coad. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Nell, his brother Albert Walter Reynolds and sister Barbara Reynolds Barbour, and nieces Cindy Barbour and Carol Rich Baker. The funeral service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m., with reception following in the Parish Hall of St. James.
