William “Bill” Cooper, III

William “Bill” Cooper, III, of San Marcos, Texas, beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away at his home on December 2, 2015, at the age of 72. He was born to William Tyre Cooper, Jr. and Margaret Scott (Dilworth) Cooper in Waco, Texas on June 17, 1943.

He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1965. In 2007 Bill moved from Denver, Colorado to live in San Marcos. He served as Treasurer for Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni. He did volunteer work with the Hays County Sheriff’s Dept and also with the San Marcos Police Department. He also volunteered for many years with the San Marcos City Library Tax Assistance Program. While he was employed at Lockheed Martin Space Systems, he traveled extensively. One of his favorite hobbies was road racing in Fort Stockton, Texas and he was an avid reader.

His parents, and his wife, Betty Jane Cooper (2007) preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Misty Dunlap of Bastrop, Texas and Danielle Cooper of Colorado; sisters, Ann Godwin of Johnson City, Texas and Cathryn Cooper of Houston, Texas; and two grandchildren, Brandon Dunlap and Marcus Merfield.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held in the Pennington Memorial Chapel, at 6:00 P.M., on Wednesday, December 9, 2015.
