Sharron Nan Smith Higginbotham entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the age of 70, due to complications from ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Bellville United Methodist Church with Pastor Amy Haralson officiating.
She was born in Bellville, Texas, November 13, 1940, to the late Charlie and Alva Leah Smith. She graduated from Bellville High School in 1959. She attended Southwest Texas State then graduated from Lamar Tech with a degree in Education. During her 33 years
as a teacher, Sharron always did her best to assist every child to reach their fullest potential and encouraged them to be the best they could be.
On October 3, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe (Prause) Higginbotham. They were blessed with a daughter, Dawn, and a son, Joe Darin. They lived in Odessa for 5 years where she began her teaching career. They then moved to Bryan/College Station
where she attended Texas A&M and earned her Masters degree in Education. In 1969, they found their way back to Bellville where she taught until her retirement in 1998.
Sharron was a member of the Bellville United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and the Bluebonnet Quilt Guild. She was an active participant in the Austin County Fair and the Ladies’ Golf Association. She also enjoyed playing bridge and Hate Your
Neighbor.
Sharron spent countless hours enjoying her hobbies that included quilting, needlepoint, stained glass, and antiquing, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joe (Prause) Higginbotham; her daughter Dawn Yantis and husband Dusty of Bellville and son Joe Darin Higginbotham and wife Heather also of Bellville. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Callie, Kacie, and
Jace Yantis and Zachary, Jacob, Mitchell, and Marin Higginbotham. She is also survived by her brother Kent Smith and his wife B.J.; sister-in-law Tawana Liggett and her husband Larry; brother-in-law Jimmy Higginbotham and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sharron is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Alva Leah Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be welcomed at Bellville United Methodist Church or the Bellville Education Foundation.
