Dr. John W. Kahla
1946-2015 Dr. John W. Kahla, 68, of Jasper, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at The Jasper County Cowboy Church in Jasper with interment to follow at Mashaw Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Event Center on Highway 190 West in Jasper. Dr. John Kahla was born on October 15, 1946, in Galveston, Texas to Joe H. and Anna C. Kahla, of Port Bolivar, Texas. He married Lee Ellen Walker on August 3, 1968 in Port Bolivar, Texas. He was an August 1970 graduate of Texas A&M University from the College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, he moved to Jasper, Texas the following day and opened his veterinary practice on Houston Street under the Tavern Oak. In 1974, he relocated Jasper Animal Hospital to Highway 63W, where he continued to practice for 35 years. After three years of retirement and honey-do's, Doc opened Beech Grove Veterinary Services. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Jasper County Jr. Livestock Association, where he served as President for four years, Texas High School Rodeo Association for 12 years, served as President of Region V THSRA for 4 years and on the State Board of Directors for 6 years, Board of Directors for the Independent Cattlemen's Association for 6 years, American Brahman Breeders Association, a 30 year member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Texas Quarter Horse Association, Louisiana Quarter Horse Association, a recipient of the Galveston County 4H Gold Star Award, Honorary FFA Member of the Jasper County Chapter, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jasper, as well as The Jasper County Cowboy Church. Dr. Kahla is preceded in death by his mother Anna C. Kahla, brother Glenn Ray Kahla, and several good horses and dogs. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Lee Ellen Kahla; father Joe H. Kahla & wife Shirley; sister JoAnn Stanley & husband Glen; children Melissa Raley & husband Ryan, Charlotte Odom & husband Cody, Joe Glenn Kahla & wife Karen, and Jodi Morian & husband Bill; grandchildren Billy Morian III, Matt Morian, Cooper Raley, Marci Raley, Jake Kahla, Wyatt Odom, Jack Kahla, Sydni Cain, and Harley Odom; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a huge extended family. Memorial contributions canbe made to the Jasper County Cowboy Church, 2200 West Gibson St. Jasper, Texas 75951.
