In Memoriam of Karen Marie Barnett
March 18, 1993 - March 27, 2015
Karen Marie Barnett, 22, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 in Temple, TX. She was born March 18, 1993, in Austin, TX to Michael & Anne Barnett. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Charles Barnett, and her sister, Elizabeth Anne Barnett, and grandparents Bob & Ruthine Hennessy and Marie Barnett. Karen had many aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins and extended family. Her bright personality brought life and light to all who knew her.
Karen graduated near the top of her class from Round Rock High School in 2011. She played flute for the Dragon Band and also performed with the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra as a guest musician.
Karen was a member of the Texas Aggie Class of 2015, although she graduated in 2014 with a BA degree in History and a minor in Religious Studies. At Texas A&M, she made many friendships and met her boyfriend, Trey Windon, through playing Quidditch, a game popularized by the Harry Potter series.
After graduation, Karen continued to live in College Station and worked in Navasota as Customer Service Manager for Scientific Equipment of Houston. She loved her job and her co-workers.
Karen was strong in her Catholic faith. For about 10 years of her life, she listened to her heart in discerning whether to pursue a religious vocation as a nun. She actively researched all aspects of the calling, and in the process developed a deep faith life. Karen worked with young girls in Navasota in developing their faith through Regnum Christi, and was excited about her plans to help with summer camp for these girls.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, at Beck Funeral Home in Round Rock, followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday April 1, 2015 at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, TX.
