Shreveport, LA - After a long illness, John Creighton Webb, Jr. passed away on January 23, 2015. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Park Cemetery. Memorial services will begin at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 26, 2015 in Couch Chapel at First United
Methodist Church, with the Reverend Carl Rhoads officiating. Afterward, the family will receive visitors in Couch Parlor.
Creighton Webb was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 10, 1928, the son of John Creighton Webb, Sr., and Mary Nelwyn Roach, of Lucas, Louisiana. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Mattie Lou Shaffer, and by his sisters, Helen Cooley, Azalie
Crain, and Lucille Day.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Willingham Webb, his daughters Mary Ann Boggs and her husband H. Whitney Boggs III, Mattie Lou Goodwin and her husband Daniel Frank Goodwin III, and Denyse Baker and her husband Donald Curtis Baker. His grandchildren
are Carmen Rane Hudson, Creighton Whitney Boggs and Elena Chastine Boggs, and his great-grandchildren are Kelli Nora, Lance and Kameron.
Creighton was a graduate of C. E. Byrd High School and Texas A & M College. A veteran of the Korean Conflict with Company L, 31st Infantry, he was a Light Weapons Infantry leader until reassigned to the 6147th Tactical Control Group "Mosquitoes" of the 5th
Air Force. He flew 66 reconnaissance missions.
Upon completion of military duty, Creighton joined his family in the operation of Webb and Webb Plantation which had been established by his grandfather, Frederick Fletcher Webb, Sr. In 1966 the Shreveport Jaycees named him Young Farmer of the Year. In 1974,
he acquired an interest in Gayle Gin Company, and that year was selected by the National Cotton Council as a delegate to tour cotton-related facilities in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Creighton attended the Upper Room Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church for 40 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Caddo Parish Farm Bureau, and National Cotton Council. Early in his career, he served on the Democratic Executive Committee,
was Justice of the Peace for one term in Ward 8 of Caddo Parish. He helped establish the Ellerbe Road Fire Department and served on its board for many years.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hart, Charles Henington, Jr., Perry Hollembeak, Mark Johnson, Sam Smith, Byrum Teekell, Mark Webb, and Vernon Webb.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Paul Wilson, Dwight Tietjen, Haley Hutchinson, and the staff of the North Pavilion at Live Oak, who cared for him with kindness and compassion. For the many times they cheerfully and ably came to his aid, sincere
thanks to Fire Chief Keith Harris and the men and women of Caddo Parish Fire District No.5.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the foundation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy: CurePSP, 30 East Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093, to the American Heart Association , or to a charity of the donor's choice .
