CLIFTON ELDRED PFEIL

REFUGIO - Clifton Eldred Pfeil, DVM, died on Friday, October 17, 2014.

Born on February 4, 1929, in Refugio County to Walter and Katherine Dorn Pfeil, Clifton was educated in the Bonnie View school system then graduated from Woodsboro High School in 1946.

He was a member of the Texas A&M Class of 1950. Following his sophomore year, Clifton entered Texas A&M's School of Veterinary Medicine, where he received his BS and DVM degrees. At that time he was the youngest student to complete A&M's vet program. He was employed briefly in Waxahachie then bought Dr. Tom Fagan's practice in Refugio, where he continued handling large and small animals. Clifton retired several years ago and was recognized with life membership by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.

On June 8, 1955, Clifton married Lenette Jones in a Presbyterian ceremony in Refugio, and they provided support to a number of organizations, including the Refugio County Fair Board,Texas A&M Foundation, and Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation. Clifton and Lenette were named Citizens of the Year by the Refugio County Chamber of Commerce in 1992 and Friends of 4-H in 2013. They also were certified as Mark Francis Fellows by the School of Veterinary Medicine at A&M.

Clifton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Refugio and a past member of the Lions Club. For many years he served on the Refugio County Fair Board and the Boards of Trustees of the Refugio Independent School District and Refugio County Hospital District.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Katherine Pfeil; and his brother, James Pfeil.

Clifton is survived by his wife, Lenette Pfeil; son, Ken (Carol) Pfeil; son, Ed Pfeil; and granddaughter, Jennifer Pfeil (Ryan) Cupps.

Other survivors include his brother, Glen (Joyce) Pfeil; sister, Norma Pfeil (Don) Williams; sister, Dottie Pfeil (Joe) Dunham; sister-in-law, Doris Pfeil; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 21, at Moore Funeral Home in Refugio.

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, at First Presbyterian Church of Refugio, 305 W. Fannin, at 10:00 AM.

Pallbearers are Louis Willeke, Greg Weber, Brandon Gray, Scott Pfeil, Larry Pfeil, and Rick Pfeil.

Honorary pallbearers are David Edwards, Jr., Richard H. Heard, MD, Hugh Thomas, Leander Niemann, John Harkins, Joe Burke, Don Williams, and Joe Dunham. Visitors and participants are asked to dress casually and comfortably in keeping with Clifton's affinity for informal attire. Skirts, blouses, slacks, jeans, open-collar shirts, and boots are encouraged for the visitation and services.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 28, Refugio, TX 78377; or Refugio County 4-H Clubs, 107 E. Roca, Refugio, TX 78377.
