Harman Edgar "Ed" Eppes '48, 90 of Wharton (formally of San Augustine) died June 30, 2014. He served in the U.S. Army as an Aviation Cadet and was honorably discharged July 10, 1943. He was married to Vila Catherine Cobern October 6, 1944. After her death
April 22, 1986, he married
Dorothy Armstrong Fraley October 18, 1987 who passed away October 14, 2004. He was a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Wharton for many years. He retired from Gulf State Tube January 19, 1989. After graduation in 1948, he spent two years in Saudi Arabia
advancing date development research. He volunteered his time to SHARE in Wharton for 23 years, did missionary work in Belize and helped rebuild the town of Saragosa after a tornado destroyed it in May of 1987. He never failed to hug and say “I love you”
to everyone he met, and never knew a stranger. He had three children and four step-children. Survivors: a son, daughter, four step-children, eight grand-children, sixteen great grand-children and one great great-grand-child.

Ed graduated June 4, 1948 from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture. He was proud to be an Aggie.
