William Edmond "Ed" Billingsley, 82, of Brunswick Plantation, Calabash, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at his residence. He was born on September 30, 1932 in Beaumont, TX; a son of the late William Eugene and Hazel Thompson Billingsley.After graduating high school, Ed joined the US Air Force for four years, spending three years in France. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in chemical engineering. Ed was a lifelong Texas Aggie supporter of the university and football team. He always loved football, and played tackle on his "Royal Purple" high school team in Beaumont. He had an intriguing career with Hercules, Inc., Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, Rocket Center, WV. He retired with 31 years of service with the company. For 20 years of his career, he was involved in the design and development of many missile systems, including Polaris, Sprint, Poseidon, and Trident I and II. Ed, along with his wife, of 61 years, Phyllis, loved to travel to "far off places." The years in France taught him the value of seeing other places. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott Billingsley, and wife, Linda, of Meadville, PA, and Bill Billingsley, and wife, René, of Gulf Breeze, FL; brother, Larry Billingsley, of Houston, TX; and five grandchildren, Brittany, Jesse, Victoria, and Will Billingsley, and Carl Schultz. Ed was a loyal supporter of our Armed Forces.
