R.W. Moreland July 3, 1943 - Oct. 12, 2014 Dr. R. W. (Dickey) Moreland, 71 of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014, in Temple. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, at the Ater Cemetery. Dr. Moreland was born on July 3, 1943
in Gatesville, to the late Otha and Lila Barbee Moreland. He attended grade school in Levita and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1961. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physics with honors from Sam Houston State University in 1964, Masters of
Science in Physics from Texas A&M in 1966, Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science, with honors from Texas A&M in 1972, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in Veterinary Medicine, Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M in 1973. In 1974, he served his internship in large
animal medicine and surgery at Oklahoma State University. Later in 1974, he opened and started his veterinary practice in Ft. Gates and then later moved it to Ater, where he practiced as a local veterinarian for 40 years. Prior to establishing his veterinary
practice, he was an engineer for Schlumberger Well Services and a research scientist for Texas Nuclear. He married Rose Mary Baize on January 21, 1967. He was President of the Ater Cemetery Association for many years. He loved reading, his kids and grandkids,
his cows and a wild hog that he raised, named "Pig" and his dog, named "Dog". He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gatesville. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rose Mary Moreland; daughter, Kristie Pearce; son, Colby Moreland and
