Roy Cook
Born: February 13, 1930
Died: September 25, 2014

ROY H. COOK

ROY HAYES COOK, husband, father, grandfather, friend, avid Aggie, veteran, Master Mason, businessman, and rancher passed away September 25, 2014. Roy is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Joan Martin Cook; daughter, Catherine Stearns and her husband Zach of Bastrop; daughter Caren Burbach and her husband Ed of Austin; grandchildren, Audra Stearns, Caroline Burbach and Beau Roy Burbach; and many treasured friends. Born February 13, 1930 to Lottie and Frank “Buddy” Cook, Roy graduated from Waller High School in 1946. He hitchhiked to Texas A&M University and became a member of the Corps of Cadets at the age of 16. In 1950, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from A&M and was awarded his U.S. Air Force officer commission by Five Star General Omar Bradley. Roy served as an Air Force Intelligence Officer during the Korean War, becoming the Director of Operational Intelligence. He married Joan Martin of Tyler in 1958 and they made their home in Waller County. A member of the Board of Directors of San Bernard Electric Cooperative for over 40 years and Chairman of the Board for 22 of those years, he became Director Emeritus in June, 2014. Roy served for many years as a Director and Vice President of Guaranty Bond State Bank, was the Texaco consignee for the surrounding area and, for nearly 20 years, worked for Occidental Chemical Company. He and his longtime friend, Judge A.M. McCaig, owned McCaig-Cook Chevrolet in Hempstead, later selling the dealership to Lawrence Marshall. Roy was a member of Waller Baptist Church for over 54 years, a Master Mason and a member of Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge #380 for over 60 years. A rancher his entire life and a man of few words, Roy’s actions were a testament to the Spirit-filled life he led. His greatest joy was spending time at home with his family, his cattle and his dogs. A Memorial Service will be Friday, October 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Waller Baptist Church with Pastor Allen McClure officiating. Lunch will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Pallbearers are J.C. Umland, Ron Wooten, Henry Schmidt, Harold Thomas, Paul Wood, Beau Roy Burbach, Ed Burbach, Guy Thomas, Zach Stearns, and Roger Frey. Guest Book @ www.canonfuneral home.com. Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roy H. Cook Scholarship Fund through the Texas A&M Foundation.
