Charles Eckert
March 25, 1928 - September 19, 2014
Charles Lindy Eckert - 86 - joined his Lord and savior on September 19, 2014. He passed peacefully in his sleep after battling Parkinson's and congestive heart failure. Born March 25, 1928 to his loving parents Ewald Ernest Eckert and Catherine Josephine Kimbrough Eckert, He was proceeded in death by his parents and younger brother William Robert Eckert of San Antonio, Texas. Charles, nicknamed Charlie, Bones or Lindy depending on what group of family or friends he was with, attended Little Flower Shrine and Central Catholic High school in San Antonio. He attended Texas A&M College Station and was a proud member of the Corp of Cadets and the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. After graduating with a BS in Industrial Engineering in the spring of 1949, he married his Aggie Sweetheart, Marjorie (Margie) Lutz on June 11th. Charlie proudly served as Captain in the United States Air Force and in the Reserves. Charlie and Margie made their home in San Antonio where they were blessed with nine children. He worked as sales manager and Senior Vice President for 43 years at Reliable Battery Company and Standard Industries. He was an active member of the San Antonio A&M Club, Executive Club, Rotary Club, Alhambra Bejar Caravan 56, and served in many capacities for over 54 years at St. Luke's Catholic Church and a life member of the men's club. Charlie lived his life to its fullest - every day with his family near. Spending weekends at city parks playing horseshoes and dominoes surrounded by his many children, wife, in-laws and nieces and nephews. He never met a stranger and everyone he called "friend" was a friend for life. From his buddies from Central Catholic, to A&M to the special couples in the Rose of Sharon Guild, many wonderful people held a special place in his long life. Part of his heritage from his parents was the "Cottage" in Stonewall, TX where he took his family on weekends and vacations. He loved teaching his kids how to run "trot" lines, catch catfish, swim in the Pedernales River, and watching his grandchildren play on the "Monkey Tree". With as many children and grandchildren that Charlie had, it wasn't always easy to gather everyone together. That's why traditions and holidays meant so much to him. He loved getting together at least once a month to celebrate all of the family members' birthdays. Nothing made him as happy as when he could see all of his family and extended family together under one roof. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 65 years, Marjorie Josephine Lutz Eckert, 9 sisters-in-law, 6 brothers-in-law, and his nine children, Catherine Schneider, Charles Eckert Jr., Robert Eckert, Margaret Miller, Daniel Eckert, Jean Keen, Nancy Menger, Donna Fields, and Patricia Guevarra all who live in and around the San Antonio area. And his "outlaws" as he affectionately called them, sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. George Schneider, Jo Eckert, Felicia Eckert, Roy Miller, Karen Eckert, Jerry Keen, Todd Menger, Andy Fields and Ignacio Guevarra. Grandkids Catherine Schneider, Elizabeth Schneider, Rebecca and her husband Sean Roberts, Charles Eckert, Kayla and Lucas Eckert, Matthew Miller, Jonathan and his wife Heather Miller, Jennifer and Joey Navarro and Nathan and Krystal Eckert, Jill Keen, Samantha and Lindy Menger, Hannah, Drew, and Allison Fields, Ignacio and Anthony Guevarra, and step grandchildren Jim Thigpen, Chad and Troy Miller. Great-grandchildren Lorelei Miller and Khloe Navarro, and step great-grandchildren, Sarah Thigpen, Levi Symington and Lilly Dexter, Audrie and Adam Abdallah, and more than 50 nieces, nephews, and cousins.Being a true Aggie at heart, Charlie lived his life honestly and with integrity. To quote our dad and grandpa - "May all your troubles be little ones", "Never go to bed angry", "Kiss your wife goodnight". And if you were lucky enough to marry one of his children or grandchildren, he made sure to tell the "outlaws" there were "NO returns". Always concerned about our table manners he would tell us "No elbows on the table" and "No singing at the table or you will marry a crazy man". "The Lord won't give you a ladder to tall to climb." "The Lord gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers."
SERVICES
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Monday, September 22, 2014 at St. Luke Catholic Church with a rosary service to begin at 7:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at St. Luke Catholic Church with interment to follow at Mission Burial Park North with Military Honors.
