Robert Lester "Rob" Thurman"Rob" Thurman, Robert Lester Robert Lester (Rob) Thurman was born on May 1, 1947 in Beaumont, Texas. He passed away on May 9, 2014 at his home in Frisco, Texas, after a short battle with cancer. Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Jack E. Thurman, Sr., and Fanelle Hankamer Thurman. He leaves behind an extensive loving family: wife of 27 years, Ellen Bishop Thurman of Frisco, Texas, daughter, Anne Roberts Hill and her husband Brent, of Plano, Texas, son, John William Roberts and his wife Emily of Austin, Texas, son Charles Phillip Harper of Ft. Worth, Texas and Preston Harper of Moultrie, Georgia. Also surviving is brother, Jack E. Thurman, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Beaumont, Texas, sister, Lyn Robinette and her husband Bill of Dallas, Texas, one niece, and seven grandsons. Rob graduated from Texas A & M University in College Station with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Class of '69. He began his 42 year career with Halliburton Energy Services (then known as Otis Engineering) in Belle Chase, LA in 1970 as an Engineering Trainee. In 1972, he was transferred to London, England, where he served as a Sales Engineer for four years before moving to The Hague, Holland, as National Sales Engineer. In 1979, Rob returned to the States to serve in a variety of roles for Halliburton from Product Manager to Senior Technical Advisor at the Carrollton location until his death. Rob received several patents during his 42 year career with Halliburton. Those who knew him well understood his love for all things classic: cars, motorcycles, go-carts and classic car magazines. He loved nothing more than exploring used book stores and swap meets for those things. He was well-loved by friends and family and will be truly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 2 o'clock p.m. at First Baptist Church of Carrollton, 2400 North Josey Lane, Carrollton, Texas 75006 with a reception to follow in the parlor.
