Jimmy David Hatley
(February 3, 1937 - June 16, 2013)

Jimmy David Hatley passed away at his home in Alvin, Texas on Father’s Day, June 16, 2013 at 1:10 p.m. in Alvin, Texas. He fought a long, courageous battle with colon cancer. He was born the middle child of Jasper and Lucille Hatley in Northeast Texas in the little community of Dike, Texas on February 03, 1937. He always cherished the memories of his birthplace and childhood days.

From a very early age, he displayed a strong mechanical ability and loved to build things. He always loved learning and teaching people how to better their life. His passion for education and acquiring new knowledge never ended. He could converse on almost any subject, and he always had a project. He possessed innumerable hobbies.

He received a B.S. from East Texas State University, a M. Ed. from Southwest Texas State University, and a Doctorate of Education from Texas A&M University. He began his teaching career in secondary education in New Braunfels, Texas in 1959 and retired from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1989 as an Associate Professor. He taught at Alvin Community College for several years after his retirement. Jimmy and his wife Audrey built and operated Carefree Laundry in Alvin for 34 years.

Jimmy met Audrey Marriott Hatley from Campbell, Texas in 1956 while attending college in Commerce, Texas. She was 16 years old and a senior in high school. They were married on June 15, 1957. From this union, they were blessed with three sons of which he was so very proud and seven grandchildren whom he cherished. He is preceded in death by twin grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Hatley; sons, Stan Hatley and wife, Linda, of Alvin, Texas, Brett Hatley of Sugar Land, Texas, and Dustin Hatley of Humble, Texas; his grandchildren, Stevie Cuellar, Angela Hatley, Austin Hatley, Brett Hatley, Jr, and Amanda Hatley and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Alvin, Texas 611 W. South Street, Alvin, Texas 77511. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery, Pearland, Texas.
