Ellen Lee Wilson, 82, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Paramount Baptist Church with Charlie Cox officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Ellen was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Waco to Milton and Mabel Ricketts. She was raised in Waco, where she was a 1947 graduate of Waco High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Texas A&M University in 1969, and a master’s degree.

Ellen married Grady Wilson on Oct. 21, 1949, in Waco. She started her teaching career in Bryan before moving to Amarillo in 1972. She worked for Bryan Independent School District, Canyon Independent School District and retired from Highland Park Independent School District. She also worked for Region 16.

Following retirement, Ellen continued working with kids as a substitute teacher. She was the epitome of the 12th man and a supporter of Khiva Shrine Temple, where she and her husband traveled with Khiva Oriental Band and Mobile Nobles. She also was a member of Amarillo A&M Club, Daughters of the Nile and Paramount Baptist Church. More than anything, she loved her family and being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Wanda Ricketts; and a brother, M.R. Ricketts.

Survivors include her husband, Grady; two daughters, Linda Blake and husband Bruce and Melissa Prater and husband Alan, all of Amarillo; two sons, John Wilson and Kevin Wilson, both of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Dylan and wife Wendy, Lauren and husband Ben, Seth and Allison; and a great-grandson, Samuel.

The family suggests memorials be to Ladder of Smiles, in care of Khiva Oriental Band, 305 S.E. 5th St., Amarillo, TX 79105.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
